The 5 R’s
Most often, when thinking about waste, which I know happens constantly, people think about the 3 R’s: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. While these are definitely important there are 2 others that are often overlooked but equally as important. These are Rot and Rebuy.
Learn more about each of these important actions you can take.

Sometimes I also hear people talk about another R – Refuse.
Collectively, we have a lot of power as consumers.
For example, if I have a choice between two electronic items and one comes in a plastic bubble and one comes tied to a piece of cardboard,I pick the one with less packaging.
You can also make choices like refusing to use plastic bags or refusing to accept a styrofoam takeout cup.

Cool- I like the “refuse” idea! Have to be careful not to pronounce it reff-yuce though. But that is probably the R that I use the most.

In my school we have 7 Rs:-
Reduce
Reuse
Repair
Recycle
Respect
Rot
Rebuy
… Or at least we try to adhere to the vision of a sustainable way of life.

Anne

Isn’t it recycle, reuse, reduce, refuge and reconsider – with sustainability?

refuse is a good one. It’s is amazing, sometimes here in Singapore I have to repeat myself, and sometimes raise my voice at the clerk, because they insist on giving me a plastic bag after I clearly tell them I don’t want one. They truly have no idea how wasteful they are
